Summer Trip - 2009

Day 1: London
Apparently, Lunesta is effective only on webmasters, as the other three members of the traveling party sleeplessly watched him doze during the entire flight.  Upon landing, we made our way through the maze of escalators at Heathrow and boarded the tube into London.  Two of the four of us (the ones with the cash) were able to make it off the train at South Kensington, the other two (the ones with the passports) watched as the train doors snapped closed in front of them and they went off to stations unknown.  Fortunately, the explorers soon reunited and made their way over to the hotel.  We spent the afternoon exploring the Tower of London & the area near the Tower Bridge before dinner at the Ye Old Cheshire Tavern.  An evening visit to Starbucks almost kept us awake as we waited for the 9:30pm (um, I mean 2130 hours) Ceremony of the Keys.  Finally, we made it back to our hotel at 10:30pm for some much needed rest.  Quote of the day: "Hmmm...this steak and kidney pie is a bit gamey."

On the tube into London.  Jet lag has already set in. At the Tower of London With a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London The Tower Bridge Elizabeth couldn't get in.  Of course, Will couldn't either. You saw WHAT in that phone booth?

Shouldn't have ordered decaf.

Day 2: London
We happily slept in until 9am and ridded ourselves of much of our jetlag.  Our search for coffee was fruitless, and we hurried past Big Ben to see the ridiculously crowded changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace.  The girls took off for high tea and some sightseeing, and the boys headed off to Westminster Abbey and the British Museum.  Afterwards, we rendezvoused at Harrod's and headed back to the hotel to ready ourselves for the evening.  After a cab ride over to the theatre district and dinner at an Italian joint, we enjoyed a very nice production of Les Misērables.  After some late night souvenir hunting, a stroll through Piccadilly Circus, a tube ride, and waiting for Elizabeth to make a phone call, we made it back at the Premier Tower Hill for the night.  Quote of the day: "Dad, you're bringing me down" (and that was before her shoe broke).
