I am a soldier

I wonder if I'll make it home

I hear people screaming and guns firing

I see people dieing all around me and a gun in my hands

I want to go home and see my family again

I am a soldier

I imagine me with a medal for bravery

I feel bad that I left my family and I might not see them again

I touch my M60 that's blowing people away

I worry that I might let my country down

I cry when I'm wounded on my ankle

I am a soldier

I understand that the last thing I might see is the pearly gates

I say that my friend is still here when he is lying on the ground

I dream that this war had never started

I try to stay alive and not let the enemy win

I hope to make it through this ugly, bloody war

I am a soldier

P.S. I thank all the soldiers that risked their lives trying to protect their country.  Even if they don't make it home.  They all deserve a medal for bravery.  Thank You.
